The Shiro Tora Championships is a tournament solely dedicated to Sensei Gerard M. Weis. He has made such an impact on the Alamogordo Community that we want to keep his spirit alive though this Annual Event. As well as The Martial Arts Community, Touching so many lives in the 48 years of his Career. The Tournament is Hosted By Complete Martial Arts, ran by his sons that keep the school open in Alamogordo, New Mexico.

This year is the 3rd Annual Shiro Tora Championships and we are always looking to make it bigger and better than the previous year. This year we had added 2 Seminars for the Practitioners to further their knowledge. The Cost of the Semniars are $30.00 each or $50.00 for both.

First we have Kombat Kenjutsu Seminar that will be held on Friday June 27th.
At 5 PM at the Complete Martial Arts Dojo.

Tim VanDenover - Kombat Kenjutsu (Chanbara)
Proper Handling of the Chanbara sword and effecting blocking sets.

Tim VanDenover is an 8th Degree Black Belt in Shorin Ryu under James H. Hawkes. He is trained in Chanbara, and has competed at the World Sports Chanbara Championships in Yokohama, Japan. He runs Rising Sun Karate in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Mr. VanDenover is the Kombat Kenjutsu Style Head for the USAMA. He is helping to keep the Samurai spirit alive through the practice of Kombat Kenjutsu, the new era of weapons and sword play. This is a safe way to fight with swords and other weapons as the equipment is specially padded to allow practitioners to perfect their techniques as full-speed, 100% of their strength, power and capability without the risk of injury.

Schedule:      Registration at Door Begins: 8:00 a.m.
                       Black Belt Meeting: 9:45 a.m.
                       Tournament Starts 10:00 a.m.

Fees:      $40.00 1 or 2 Events, $5.00 for each additional event.
               Current Association (USAMA) Members receive $5.00 discount if Pre-registered by June 21st.
               Spectators : $5.00 (5 Yrs. & Under - Free)

               Current Adult Black Belt NMSKA Members who Judge may compete for Free.

Rules:      USAMA Tournament rules Point Sparring: 5 points for adult Black Belts, 3 points for
                 children & adult kyus. 2 minutes fighting time. Light (touch) face contact Adult Brown
                 & Black Belts. NO face contact for Youth, Novice Adults, or Colored Belt Adults.

Equipment:      Traditional Uniforms (sleeves past elbow, No T-shirts) Foam Safety equipment
                          (head, hands, feet) is required for all sparring divisions. All Sparring divisions
                          require mouthpieces for all competitors, and Groin Protection for all male competitors.

Trophies:      Beautiful Trophies for First, Second, Third place Winners. Medals for all youth kata
                       competitors. All First place Forms Winners qualify to compete for Grand Champion
                       Awards. Beautiful Grand Champion awards for Black Belt Forms, Black Belt Men
                       Sparring, Black Belt Woman Sparring, Adult Kyu Forms, Junior Forms. <

Eli Guzman - Take Down Sparring (TDS)
Successful TDS Strategies to use in the ring.

Eli Guzman is a 6th Degree Black Belt in Kenpo Karate. He is also skilled in Jiu Jitsu and trained as a bodyguard, and was a varsity wrestler. He runs Guzman Sport Karate & Kickboxing in Las Cruces, New Mexico. His school has been voted Best Martial Arts School in Las Cruces many times and is the largest school in the city.

Mr. Guzman is the Take Down Sparring Style Head for the USAMA. He formed TDS to allow competitors to compete in an event that encompasses everything from sparring to grappling to Jiu Jitsu, but in a safer environment than MMA. It really allows the well-rounded competitor to shine.
